To get SUSE 10.1 up and running on VMPlayer I created a Virtual machine at EasyVMX (http://www.easyvmx.com). The first roadblock was that my CDROM wasn’t detected. As I really didn’t want to load all 5 iso files I searched and finally found this fix:

# Settings for physical CDROM drive
ide1:1.present = “TRUE”
ide1:1.deviceType = “cdrom-raw”
ide1:1.startConnected = “TRUE”
ide1:1.fileName = “auto detect”
ide1:1.autodetect = “TRUE”

Hopefully that saves someone some time!

I’m still vascillating back and forth between Kubuntu and SuSE on my home desktop. I use SuSE 10.0 exclusively at work, as both a live system and on a virtual machine. After some tweaking, both run well and I love it. At home, however, I have been running Kubuntu 6.06 and once I was able to set the resolution higher I love it as well. Both have pros and cons but the jury is still out. I am still trying to fix a blurry screen/fonts on the linux for both distros, but it seems a bit better on the SuSE side right now. More to come.
